TSD COMBAT SYSTEMS CLASSIC BOWIE KNIFE
We studied the Bowie Knife and Western blade under James A. Keating many years ago. Since that time we have wanted a modern quality bowie capable of serving as both a combat knife as well as a field knife. Sadly, all the knives we have looked at have compromised either on size, blade steel, or were designed as some sort of period museum piece more suitable for a Civil War re-enactment than a modern firebase. So, just like the driving force behind our other projects, we did it ourselves.
Based on a design by Suarez International Staff Instructor - John Chambers, the TSD Combat Systems Classic Bowie is big. At 16" overall length, with a 10 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide, 1/4" thick blade, it is almost a short sword. The steel is the classic 01 tool steel that made the Randall Knife famous, and it is heat treated to be tough and capable of taking and holding a razor's edge.
It sports an integral guard capable of catching an opponent's blade, or allowing the user to choke up on the handle for field duties. The handle is an ergonomic design that will stay in your hand through anything you could call on the knife to do. As well, like all the TSD line of knives, the handle is made of anodized aluminum. It totally non-porous, easily cleansed to a sanitary state, and incapable of holding on to any blood-borne pathogens.
The sheath is a kydex sandwich that can be attached to the belt via a supplied Blade-Tech tek-lock, or to any Molle web gear or pack by other means. The knife is left unfinished, and will darken with use. The handles and sheaths are available in Black, Olive Green, and Flat Dark Earth.
