One thing I learned while a PO: stay fit or be hurt. I've now been out of the job (25 years) for longer than I was on it (20 years), and have a workout routine than would exhaust people half my age. I see my peers unable to walk up stairs or struggle to get off a sofa. Fifty years of gut busting cardio and weights has paid off, but with my luck I'll get hit by a bus, but I'll be in shape when it rolls over me.

See you in Winchester, VA next week!

"...excuses are just a substitute for laziness" That needs to be a T-shirt, Gabe. My CrossFit coach has a similar line on his - "Results or Excuses, Not Both."

Staying with it is hard sometimes but I can't quite. The write ups in wt keep me inspired. At 66 years young have trouble saying no to myself. I have been doing yoga for several years 7 plus. I did just stop Systema after 10 months. I loved it but it was painful. It is alot like wt with so many good things to learn. I do have a fear injury. We would fall on the the floor 50 times In a 2hour session. 1 broken nose. My peers question my sanity. They dont stay in any shape well round is one shape.
I really liked the story about Todd the guy that is training to kick my ass someday. The strong and start with win.
Lucky1

It seems to me that this is especially true for women. A woman already probably has size disparity with a potential foe, so if she can't run and squat, or if she isn't the strongest she could possibly be, she hasn't got a chance.

Hey Gabe , pass the dounuts !!

Suach a small Bee frightens such a big man. Be the "Bee".

I approve of this message.

I quit smoking 4 months ago, doing some crossfit, hiking, circuit training. Happy with where im going....lol gonna take a long time to undo the damage. Thanks gabe...youre telling people what they have to do and why.

Fellow readers; if you don't already have a routine check out crossfit; they are popping up all over the country for good reason.

Awesome write up. I am often amazed at the "fitness" of some of our LEO's and other public servants. If your life is on the line every day how in the world can you justify getting fat and out shape? What good will you be to someone in need?

There is no easy way to get in shape but it only requires discipline. Break a sweat every day and quit smoking and drinking. Easy as pie! As your fitness increases so will your confidence and willingness to get out of your comfort zone.
