We spoke with our man on the inside. Some of the points noted during discussion. The engineers reworked the entire gun to the point where it is a whole new gun.
•The recoil spring is stronger and has 4 more pounds of pressure than previous guns.
•The magazine well has been widened to accept all manner of variations of steel AK magazines.
•The extractor is wider than on previous guns and the extractor spring has been beefed up.
•The extractor spring is 30% stronger than on an AK-47.
•Chamber dimmensions have been opened up 5 thousands to accomodate variations in "medium quality ammunition" (basically the crap ammo that is so prevalent in 7.62x39).
•The internal magazine shelf made of hardened steel is already known.
So it runs on steel magazines...ANY steel magazines. It shoots ANY steel cased ammo. It is more accurate than any ComBloc AK with tier one ammo like Lapua.

How do you identify a 556R.2 generation wepon?

I don't know. The only thing I would suggest is to buy from a group that is getting the rifles directly from SIG...CURRENT Rifles and not something that has been in someone's gun rack for a year.
